If providing a particular accommodation would result in undue hardship, an employer should consider whether another accommodation exists that would not. Additional Employer Questions About the ADA Can an employer consider health and safety issues in deciding whether to hire an applicant or to retain an employee with a disability? Yes. The ADA permits an employer to require that an individual not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual to other employees, or to the public. A direct threat means a significant risk of substantial harm. When can an employer require a medical examination? The ADA prohibits medical examinations before a job offer was made. After a job has been offered and prior to the start of employment, a medical examination may be required and the job offer may be conditioned on the exam results. An examination must be required of every applicant in the same job category. If the employment offer is withd rawn due to medical findings, the employer must be able to show the rejection was job-related and a business necessity and that there was no reasonable accommodation that would enable the individual to perform the jobs essential functions. Beyond that, employers want to hire candidates with the soft skills needed to succeed in their organization. If you come into a job interview, opinions blazing, you may give them the impression that youre not a team player. Unless you are applying for a job with a politician or a non-profit organization that is politically oriented, there is no need for politics to be involved. Coming from a family thats a mix of Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives, and a lone Independent, I know full well that political discussions can be tough enough when you know the people involved well. Weve had more than a few heated discussions at the dinner table. Theres no need to go there with stranger s unless your political opinions are going to be part of your job description. How best to keep politics out of your job search? Here are a few tips Do not advertise your political affiliation unless it will benefit you. If you are applying for a job at your local town hall, which is staunchly Democrat, dont mention that youre a Conservative. If you are applying for a job with your local Congressman and youre both from the same political party, by all means mention it.Dont walk into an interview wearing a donkey pin. Even if the company isnt political, the interviewer might be. And if he or she is a staunch Republican, you may not get past the screening interview. saatkorn goes for any other jewelry, shirts, scarves, what-have-you, that clearly indicates your party affiliation. In general, when picking an interview outfit, its best to choose clothing that doesnt pull focus from the conversation. You want to make an impression with your words, not your accessories.
